5 Ways to Maximize Value When Working With a Med Comms Agency

Pharmaceutical companies use agency partners to help execute  medical and scientific communication tactics, such as medical educational slide decks, congress presentations, and internal training materials. However, for a variety of reasons,  a project sponsor may not be getting the most value for its money, and this may ultimately manifest as either a subpar deliverable or an ever-expanding project scope (and fee).

Barriers to executing a quality project are unavoidable, but good planning and a strategic approach can help.

While not everything is possible to control, here are some best practices to maximize value when working with an agency partner:

  1. Identify the project lead. This is the person who acts as the key contact for the project and will help anticipate and address roadblocks, shepherd drafts for review, and route time sensitive questions to the right people.

  2. Gather appropriate stakeholders. Before a project kicks off, gain alignment on the scope, objectives, and expectations with everyone who will be involved.

  3. Foster a collaborative environment. All stakeholders must be able to ask questions and share
    concerns openly.

  4. Collect all feedback. When collecting comments from multiple reviewers, wait for all feedback, and, if necessary, address conflicting feedback before proceeding with the next draft.

  5. Be realistic about the timeline. Account for upcoming all-day meetings, conference travel, and other events that may delay the review process.

Even in the best-planned project, challenges arise. However, the tips above will help maximize value when working with agency partners and will pave the way for receiving a strong deliverable.
